MVS Hosted Runs

Running by yourself can be fun, but running with a group of friends can really keep you motivated and help make the miles float by.

The MVS hosted runs are a great way to run with your friends and meet new running partners as well. Hosted by member volunteers, a course is laid out ranging from just a few miles to distances that will get you ready for that target marathon you’ve decided to run. The routes are marked, aid stations are available along the course, and light refreshments and coffee await you when you return. Each runner is asked to bring a “little something” to add to the refreshment table.

If you’d like to host a run, please contact the hosted run coordinator with the date and place you like to host. The date can be Saturday or Sunday, but it should not conflict with an MVS SIRS race. The place can be anywhere you are comfortable with; for example, your home, or the head of a rail trail.

All hosted runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day begin at8:00 AM; otherwise, they start at 8:30 AM or at the host’s discretion and weather conditions.

After the date is confirmed, the hosted run coordinator will post the event in MVS calendar.

A week before the date, the host should create an event on the MVS Facebook page with the date and address. Members can comment and respond to this event invitation, providing a potential headcount.

The responsibility of a host: (full details at Hosted Run Checklist)

MVS provides:

  • bins for the aid stations along the course,

  • cones and MVS road signs to mark the route,

  • an urn to brew coffee (Hosted Run Coffee Urn Instructions).

  • As a special incentive, any member who hosts a run will get $50.00!

The route should be clearly marked using cones and MVS road signs. Water stops should be located every 1.5-2 miles along the route. Please put water bottles, sport drinks, cups, and tissues inside big yellow bins along the course.

The coffee urn takes time to brew coffee (Hosted Run Coffee Urn Instructions). Please start to brew coffee early.

After the run finish, the host will:

  • collect cones, signs, and water bins along the course,

  • wash and dry the coffee urn (Hosted Run Coffee Urn Instructions),

  • empty and clean out the water bins,

  • contact the next host for handing off the bins, cones, MVS signs, and coffee urn.

  • The $50 check will be given out at the next MVS monthly meeting.

Please see the instructions below for how to use the coffee urn.
