MVS "Couch to 5K" Training Program

Spring C25K Training

Need a push? Our Couch-to-5K team is here to help!

This free program is a wonderful way to get ready for a spring 5K such as the Colleen Ritzer 5K Race on May 5th, wherever you may be with your running.  Participants can improve from week to week by staying consistent and getting in at least 3 workouts a week for at least 30 minutes per workout.  You will be provided with workouts to be done independently.

The start of the 8-week training takes place at the Town Park (municipal buildings) in Andover, MA. Additional locations will include the Bird Sanctuary.  Training is coached and supported by Merrimack Valley Strider volunteers.  Training begins on Sunday, March 10 at 8:30a.m. for eight weeks preceding the Colleen Ritzer 5K on May 5th .  Note that some training sessions are on Saturdays, and some are on Sundays.

Here is the complete schedule (which is subject to change):

  • Sunday, March 10;
  • Saturday, March 16;
  • Saturday, March 23,
  • Saturday, March 30,
  • Sunday, April 7,
  • Saturday, April 13,
  • Sunday, April 21,
  • Saturday, April 27.

Race day is Sunday, May 5th .

You do not have to be a MVS member to participate in this running program.  For eight years MVS has provided a C25K program for the annual Feaster Five Road Race held on Thanksgiving Day.  We use your feedback to make each training program better!

How it Works

  • We meet the eight days reflected above at designated locations. Initially we will start at Andover Park at the corner of Bartlett and Chestnut Streets..
  • We break into groups (walkers, walk/runners, runners) to make sure everyone has the right support.
  • We start with group warm-ups and running tips each week.
  • We progress each week to further distances and more running than walking.

Who is This For?

  • Anyone who can walk and is looking for support and inspiration (children are included, suggested age 8 and older with a parent)
  • Returning runners.
  • Active runners looking to improve.
  • People looking to socialize with a walk/run group.
  • Volunteers looking to earn one point for MVS Super Iron Runner Series

Need More?

  • You will get fitter.
  • You will have fun (really, really)
