Earth Rock Run Half Marathon 2019

Published on 5/19/2019

Amesbury’s 6th  annual Earth, Rock, Run half marathon hosted by Green Stride did not disappoint! Merrimack Valley Strider, Kalliman Gomes, was one of the pacers at a 1:40 pace. He, along with other pacers led runners through the beautiful tree-lined course, across the state line into the countryside of South Hampton NH, Newton NH, and back into Amesbury offering views of Tuxbury Pond and Lake Attitash.

The first 3 miles included 1 steady incline, followed by 10 miles of many small rolling hills. It ended with a steep downhill into Amesbury’s Lower Mill Yard, leaving runners with the feeling of being rockstars as they crossed the finish line.  Throughout the race, spectators cheered on the runners, and musicians entertained. Water stops were placed every 2 miles, some including Gatorade.

Unfortunately, a shipment of smaller sweatshirts was not received in time and runners left with larger than expected sweatshirts, however, were given a hat, and 2 complimentary Shiner Beers.  They also handed out sunglasses, keychain/bottle openers, koozies and hair ties.

Everyone enjoyed music by the Spike Emerson Society and Michael Bernier, the master of ceremonies, pumped up the crowd while walking around barefoot and sporting dreadlocks at the finish line.

We’d like to congratulate a few of our Striders for placing in their age division:

Jeff Burgess 1st place
Carolyn Burt 2nd place

Nadine Johnson 2nd place

Laurie Lavallee 3rd place

Ed Porto 1st place

Lastly, we’d like to give a huge congratulations to Intervals very own Melissa Gleaton for finishing her first half marathon! You crossed the finish line looking strong and, of course, with a big smile and your red lips!! Way to go Melissa!!

Thank you to Craig Lavalley for taking awesome photos!
