Keeping It Green at Greenway 5K
Published on 9/4/2019
Greenway 5K
A record turnout of runners, volunteers, walkers and their families turned out for the Groundwork Lawrence 5K walk/run. Over seventy Striders and family members showed up on Sunday morning, August 11, 2019.
The 5K course is flat and fast and the runner's race times reflect that. Heather McMann, executive director at GWL, thanked runners, walkers and corporate sponsors for their continued support.
The race started at Manchester St Park which overlooks onto Stevens Pond, traversed along the Spicket River Greenway and finished at Ferrous Foundry Park. Volunteers and police cheered and directed runners along the path past urban neighborhood parks. Refreshments and awards followed at the race's end.
Congratulations to all the award winners and especially to the MVS award winners. Special recognition here to first in AG awards for the following Striders: Kali Otis (22:36), Mike Madden (22:54), Brigid Rodin (26:27); second in AG awards for the following Striders: Erin Madden (23:04), Amanda Smith (23:20), Nadine Johnson (23:51), David Dargie (24:42), John Shaheen (24:43), Emily Kaminsky (24:56), Louise Cummings (27:12), Aidan Bowler (28:25).
Congratulations to all our young aspiring runners too ! Joshua Pelletier competed and finished 10th overall with a time of 22:40. Rounding out the MVS youth brigade, we have Kawan Gomes, Zach Lippman, Saoirse Loth and Bradley Guyotte.
Whether you ran or walked, whether you ran with a new knee or with an old friend, whether you ran with a dog named Kona, whether you pushed a stroller with your daughter, whether you crossed the finish line together with your friend Andrea, whether you just finished a 117-mile kayak trip down the Merrimack the day before with your friend Dan or whether you were just there for the iron runner point, you were helping to "keep it green" !
