19th Lobster Dash at Ogunquit Beach
Published on 10/22/2019
In it's 19th year, the Lobster Dash celebrates the life and memory of Greg Gumbinner, a fellow runner. Striders showed up in force for yet another celebration and enjoyed the sun, sand and the surf at Ogunquit Beach. Do you know which Strider has done all nineteen ?
From the website, "One of Greg's favorite running routes was the stretch of beach from Ogunquit to Wells and back. It is here that we chose to put on a race that Greg wouldn't have missed."
The 5 mile course is flat but run on hard sand with a water stop halfway to Moody Beach. Charlie Farrington, the race director, thanked runners, walkers and corporate sponsors for their continued support. Charlie also announced the date for the 20th Lobster Dash, Sunday, September 20, 2020.
These two runners, Bill Hames and Richard Bissonette, have competed in all 19 lobster dashes. Richard hails from Auburn, Maine and finished 23rd overall with a time of 39:44 and 1st in his AG. Bill Hames, our very own Strider, competed with other walkers in a time of 1:05.
The race started at Ogunquit Beach at low tide and proceeded to Moody Beach in Wells. Runners and walkers alike enjoyed sunny skies and enjoyably warm temperatures.
There's a reason it's called the Lobster Dash. At the finish, you collect a lobster roll supplied by Barnicle Billy's of Perkins Cove but make sure you eat some watermelon too.
Congratulations to all the award winners and especially to the MVS award winners. Crissy Lippman, Nadine Johnson, Norma DeFusco-King, Louise Cummings, Adrienne Keane, Gerry Fennessey, Lyn Licciardello, Julia Hsia.
Congratulations to Andrew Cummings for winning the men's Clydesdale award in a time of 40:10.
