4th Annual Harborside Half Marathon and 5K

Published on 11/18/2019

Newburyport's 4th Annual Harborside Half Marathon and 5K landed on a perfect day to throw a party for over 1200 runners! With temperatures in the high 30's at the start and low 50's at the finish, and the sun was out the entire time. After packet pickup at Michael's Harborside runners were shuttled over to the start line where there was a U-Haul truck ready to transport bags over to the finish. This gave runners the option to stay warm with their layers before the start of the race.

The half marathon course, in the shape of a lollipop, took runners through beautiful rural fields, a reservoir, and nature preserves. The last 1.3 miles was on a paved running path through the forest and back to Michael's Harborside. Most of the course was flat, but did reach an elevation of 64 feet. Every 3 miles runners were guaranteed either water or Gatorade, and at the end the choice of warm soup or chowda, granola, banana and 2 craft beers provided by Ipswich Ale Brewery.

Josh Pelletier, the first Strider to cross the 5K finish line, came in 1st place in his age division and 6th place overall, with a time of 20:43.4.  Nadine Johnson, came in 2nd in her age division of the 5K with a time of 25:09.5. Alex Smirnou, the 1st Strider to cross the half marathon finish line, came in 23rd overall with a time of 1:27:41. Tom Kinneman, the 2nd Strider to cross the half marathon finish line, also placed in his age group with a time of 1:28:14. Julia Hsia, finished the half marathon 2nd in her age division with a time of 3:02:54.
