Come Join Us

The Merrimack Valley Striders is a running club that was founded in 1979 with the mission to encourage and enhance running at all levels

Welcome to Merrimack Valley Striders

Merrimack Valley Striders was founded in 1979 with the mission to encourage and enhance running at all levels.  Every member of MVS is respected as an athlete: whether young or old, capable of winning races or further back in the pack, seasoned marathoner, or a member who is simply seeking to improve his or her health. Though we were founded in the Merrimack Valley of Massachusetts -- north of Boston, south of New Hampshire – we have grown and our reach touches runners as far away as Florida and California.

MVS Needs You!

Merrimack Valley Striders will have a tent at Andover Day and we need YOU to help us man/woman the booth.

On Andover Day, Main Street is closed so that locals can walk from booth to booth to learn about local organizations and stores.

  • Dress in MVS attire.  (Get some here: MVS Uniform)

  • Be enthusiastic!!

  • Promote MVS membership and Feaster Five.

  • Anyone who signs up for either one gets a portable charger!

  • Hand out freebies and MVS information sheets at the booth.

  • Show everyone how much fun our club is.

Other stuff you want to know:

  • It’s on Saturday, September 8th.

  • Shifts are 2 hours:

    • 7:30 – 9:30 (setup)

    • 9:30 – 11:30

    • 11:15 – 1:15

    • 1 – 3

    • 2:45 – 4:45

We’re looking for 4 people per shift, so opportunities are limited. Keep reading to see another reason you’re gonna want to volunteer.

We’d love a range of ages, from high school to senior living eligible.

New to the club? No worries - we’ll provide a talking points sheet for volunteers.

Sign up for any shift here:   Volunteering
If you really want to volunteer, but your fingers were too slow to get in on this, contact Diane Jannetti and I’ll see if we can squeeze you in.

All Andover Day Volunteers – If you can, we’d like all Andover Day volunteers to come back and meet at the end of the event (at 4) to help break down and for a special surprise thank you treat!!

Please note that this volunteer event is not counted as an eligible volunteer credit for the Super Iron Runner Series.

2018 MVS Scholarships Awarded

The MVS Scholarship committee selected ten 2018 MVS Scholarship recipients from the many applicants.  The scholarships were presented to the recipients at the May and June monthly meetings held at Salvatore's in Lawrence MA.

Each year, MVS offers scholarships to local college-bound high school seniors.  Each applicant is selected on the basis of their high school academics, community involvement, their running-related athletic participation, and an essay about "What Running Means to Me."  The scholarships are made in memory of several beloved MVS members to honor their passion for running and the running community.

Congratulations to this year's MVS Scholarship recipients!  Good luck in college!
